We bought our PUP specifically to go camping with the kids. DD was 3 years old, son was 6. Would have jumped in sooner but weren't in a position to do so, financially speaking.
We tried camping in the tent but with the two kids, dog, and DW, it got a bit tight. Spend a rainy weekend with that crew in a 4-person tent and you may never want to go camping again! The PUP gives us plenty of room, plus having the furnace and indoor stove is really nice when it's cold & wet outside.
A final thought for the OP, and I'll probably get flammed for this. Babes have been sleeping with mom & dad for eons. Both of my kids slept with us as babies without any issues at all, and was especially nice for the overnight feedings.
