new battery bit the dust but could have been worse.

I had a wire from the battery rub on the frame until it rub through the wire coating then it shorted out and burnt/melted the ends of the wires and the post and the connectors. Sure sounds like a dead short. Trace your wires from the battery to where ever they go, all of them. Open up any spliced/taped wire and check it out too.
