I bought a Hypertech programmer to update the computer for the new gear ratio. Did not use the performance programming as I did not want a 180 thermostat and 91 gas. I did choose to firm the shift points and reduced the rpm shift points and rpm limiter by 500 rpm. This reduces the tendency to downshift and I see no reason for 5000 rpm shifts when my peak torque is 2500. Also fine tuned the speedometer to match the GPS speed by adjusting the programmed tire size.
The good thing about the programmer to me is that you can update the changes at will and it will read engine trouble codes.
Good luck on you decision.
