I'll start by saying I'm NOT a Ford guy but I've had about 20 F series gasser pickups, company trucks over the last 19 years. Pretty much every model year. Out of all those I can think of 3 that had major issues and only 1 lemon.
99F350 V10. Spit a spark plug at 100k miles. 05 F150 5.4 lost a couple injectors with low miles. No other issues.
08 F150 5.4. Steering pump bad low miles. Door lock mechanism broke prolly my fault for opening it so many times with a coat hanger though haha. Right bank cat converter cratered at 50k. Got hot and burned up a bunch of stuff on that side of the motor. Trans grenaded at 60k. Few other things too.
That said all of those trucks got used to their full capability and then some.
Think you got a bad apple. Ford is as solid as any of the others
