Resale on 2x4's is next to nothing. I can understand it from reading other
campers on here and my own experience. If your going to stick with it pay
the extra for the 4x4 and avoid your wife yelling things like stupid. I saw
a guy tear up a campground site trying to get out after a storm, he had to pay
for the damages when his truck slide over and hit the plumbing and electric.
Umm.. DUH.. 4x2s COST A LOT LESS to buy when new.
Nearly $4K less not including any other extra required options which tend to push that to $5K-$6K less cost than 4x4.
When resale time comes I highly doubt a 4x4 is going to sell for $5K-$6K more than a 4x2..
Kind of like Diesel vs gas, of course a Diesel truck is going to sell for a bit more than gas and the reason is that a Diesel engine costs more up front.
Sure, the market for folks who might be in the market for 4x2 is smaller now days, but none the less, used 4x2s being cheaper can get one into a pickup truck that may not afford the asking price for a used, beat up 4x4 of the same age and mileage.
If you "want" 4x4, buy it, if you NEED 4x4, buy it.. If you simply need a pickup truck without all the bells and whistles, don't need or want 4x4 and have a small budget, buy a 4x2..
Dealer lots are full of 4x4s for a reason and it is not because "everyone" wants one, it is because the dealer makes a much, much larger PROFIT MARKUP on the 4x4..
I have a trailer that has A/C. Never use it. Don't want it. Came with the unit. My truck has 4x4. Use it all the time, winter and summer. So looking at your last statement, substitute A/C for 4x4 and you get, " Dealer lots are full of A/C units for a reason and it is not because "everyone" wants one, it is because the dealer makes a much, much larger PROFIT MARKUP on the A/C."
Try selling a non A/C unit to a family from Pa who camps in the summer at 95F and 95% humidity. Tell them that most families don't need/want A/C in an RV and your resale value will be better without A/C. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Dave
No problem buying or selling a RV without A/C in PA, I have bought trailers without A/C or a working fridge..
Window shaker A/Cs can be easily installed AND well hidden for $200 and $300 home fridges can be easily installed in a RV and it doesn't take a bunch of batteries as some folks like to scare people with..
Pretty weak comeback you have..
By not buying 4x4 I SAVE a bunch of money upfront, I GAIN more cargo capacity (about 500-600 lbs which isn't anything to sneeze at) and I GAIN gas mileage (I average 1-2 MPG BETTER than similarly equipped 4x4, I SAVE tons of money on insurance (Insurance IS based on your vehicles purchase cost and "value").
I can buy many sets of winter tires and it costs me much less than buying 4x4..
Like I said, if you WANT 4x4 then by all means buy it, don't come back and complain about lack of cargo capacity, mileage, cost or insurance..
There IS very valid reasons as to folks intentionally buying a 4x2..
I don't mock those who buy 4x4s so don't mock me for a 4x2.
