Well Dr Steve, why don't you show us some actual proof that something like this could be built. Hard numbers. Not rhetoric. Just curious what are you the doctor of? If it's electrical, mechanical, automotive engineering or physics then that would add some weight to your words.
In 1900 a lot of well educated people thought that heavier than air flight was impossible. In 1942 "experts" from the Air Force side of the Army advised the U.S. Navy that the supersonic flight required for bunker busting bombs to work was impossible. You sound a lot like those guys. The Navy built the bombs and destroyed the submarine pens without their help. Sometimes you just need a positive attitude and some time. Sometimes we fail but that even that doesn't prove it is impossible. How many times did Edison fail in his efforts to make the light bulb?
By the way, Ford is talking about making a small pickup based on the Focus. The Model 3 is doing very well right now and would probably make a better platform. That would be a small step but as the Chinese proverb says "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step".
