New idea for tiedowns?

I am setting up a flatbed with a lance 1040. I have fast gun for tiedowns. But only one set have the spring tensioners. I have thought about using spring tensioners that are normally used to keep tension on barbwire fences. Has anyone else used something like this. They are similar to the chain springs and levers used to tie down boats. I have read that others have used springs on all four corners instead of just the back. Is there a real right and or wrong way to tie the camper down?
  • In case it matters... The TL tiedowns I bought for my F150 were installed on the previous owners truck at Torklift Central and they have the "springs" that are mounted to the tiedown insert on all 4 corners. I just have the chains and turnbuckles from there.

  • The torklift tie downs are all spring loaded at the mount. If one had fastguns with spring tensioners and torklift tie down mounts, it sounds like it would be double springs. I use the torklift mounts with springs on all four corners and simple chains between the camper and the truck.
  • From what I read in my Lance manual the rear shouldn't be spring loaded as it prevents excess bounce (think of a heavy braking situation). The front being spring loaded would be enough to allow for flex in most situations (not heavy offroad) in my opinion. But I'm a newb so take that for what it's worth.
  • Framemounts= all 4 springloads

Happijac w/ bumper rear ties = non springloads in rear; bumper flexes
  • I have fast gun for tie downs and four have the spring tension's.
I just think it would be best to have some spring tension give on all four. :C
  • My Lance owners manual says springs are only needed in the front or rear. I don't remember which. I have four fastguns. After the purchase, I found out I only needed two. Oh well. Check your manual.
