Well, sorry for the lag in time, but I have finally taken possession of the rig. I Had the Visions and Hankook AH11's mounted yesterday. The AH11's are big, heavy tires, and I knew they would be out of round, as is the case with most big truck tires, but the shop around the corner did a good job balancing, and I spent about half the price for what I would have spent if I had gone with Rickson. The caps had to be ordered, as the stock Vision caps were too shallow and the Ford did not fit at all.
Two weeks ago, we took her out for the sea-trials run. Encountered snow at about 4500 feet. We could have proceeded, but my friends were in less capable vehicles, so we ended up camping at lower elevation.
The last day of our trip the whole area was snowed-in. Had to tow my friends vehicle out to the road. Of course we stayed snug and warm, all appliances (including the brand new hot water tank) performed flawlessly. My youngest was very comfortable, and is quite the book worm. :)
I am slowly learning the art of RV. When I had the hot water tank replaced, I had a local mobile service guy do it in my driveway. He taught me the basics and I was confident enough to get the rig in the woods. We had a blast. The service guy offers a roof-treatment/seal for $750 which he says will increase the life of the roof and prevent failure. I am considering this service since the roof is quite oxidized.
I also bought a Hyundai 2200i inverter generator. $449 at Walmart. Well worth it, since it performs equal to Honda at a fraction of the cost. In addition to the generator, I bought some inexpensive memory-foam mattresses for the queen bunk. The old mattresses were about shot. Very easy to sleep on those things.
Our next trip will take the whole family (missus included) to Central OR for the memorial day weekend. Really looking forward to her impression of the setup. We are also taking the last week of June off to head out to Custer, SD for Crazy Horse Memorial and Mt Rushmore. On the way, we will stop at Yellowstone for two days. I will be sure to post pics. - geoff
