New Mexico

We are going to Albuquerque next week pulling 28.5 travel trailer with chevy Tahoe. We would like to see Carlsbad caverns, white sands, hatch, Santa Fe and Taos. Any recommendations where to stay, things to do along the way, we only want to drive about 3 hours a day.
  • If you are leaving next week and haven't made reservations, you'll likely have a LOT of trouble (and/or pay through the nose) in Carlsbad and surrounding area. The oil industry contractors and their employees have occupied just about every RV space and motel room for miles around. The advice about limiting your visit to one end of the state or the other is good advice, too. It's a big place with lots of space between towns and services.

Not prejudiced at all... just a native New Mexican.

  • Ah, while New Mexico is not as large as California, it is the nation's fifth largest. And the towns and attractions you mention are, in a couple of cases, at opposite ends of the state.

My recommendation is that you restrict your travel to one region within the state. Say, north-central, which offers a LOT to see and do, and is at somewhat higher elevation, so less summer heat.

Pay a visit to NewMexico.org, the tourism website. You can choose a destination region to learn more. These two are the ones for north-central and central:
