Is there any concern with the freshwater tank of 29 gallons and the fridge (the 2 heaviest components) being on the passenger side of the unit?
The 850 also has the freshwater tank perpendicular to the front of the camper which puts the weight more toward the front, but I am not sure if this actually makes a difference.
Do you think Northwood going to a non-basement model will make that much of a difference with off road use?
Hi Nolan,
No concern there since the bathroom enclosure is pretty heavy, too. Its really well balanced, side to side, and the 840 has a better COG, with the bathroom in front of the rear axle rather than behind it.
My understanding is that all holding tanks are parallel to the floor meaning they run front to back.
The basement adds something like 8" to the height of the camper, so anything lower to the ground is a plus when it comes to off-roading. On the other hand having the holding tanks in the basement does add a lot of weight low the ground which is a plus and is something Outfitter does with their high-quality pop-up truck campers. Outfitter also uses aluminum framing for their campers like the Wolf Creeks.
