Well the verdict is in. On the advice of six different transmission shops a transfer case was installed and the whine is still there. One still insists it is not the transmission, but there is nothing else it can be. I was able to locate an old timer who rebuilt a transmission for me years ago that got more miles on his work than the original. He told me he is getting old so it takes him longer, but if I am patient he will drive it to determine if it is for sure the transmission and if it is he will do the whole job for 2,100.00. That includes any possible upgrades and a shift kit. If I would have let any of the shops do what they wanted I would be in a lot deeper than I am now. I will now have a rebuilt transmission and transfer case instead of a lawn ornament. I wish I could afford a new truck.
