Congrats!
I have been towing with 5.9 equipped Dodge 3500's for years. It's a long story but I wound up with a short trailer That Won't fit my tall truck so I bought a Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 gas motor.
I made a handful of local trips and all seemed OK. Then I took a longer trip including a couple of Mountain passes. The gas truck is now for sale.
You made the right decision buying the diesel. I got around 15 mpg towing with the Dodge. With the gas motor it has ranged from 6-9 mpg depending on the road.
It's definitely a Hoover climbing passes... It really sucks.
