A couple of guys at work with one owning a 01 Super Duty 7.3 has over 350k miles with a chrome bumper and another owner of a 09 Super Duty 6.4 has around 300k miles King Ranch painted bumper. The chrome bumper on the 01 looks about new and the 09 painted bumper King Ranch looks like ****.
There's been a exception to the chrome bumper durability as another owner of another brand started rusting a the chrome was peeling off.
had a neighbor with a ford a couple of years ago that looked new but the chrome was lifting off . it was a big long bubble. Truck was not brand new but nothing is perfect.

Sure but for the vast majority of trucks with high miles and age the chrome plating is much more durable than a painted steel bumper.
