I don't have the B&W hitch (yet that is) but I do have a newer Ram short box. I have the Ram (Curt) 20k slider hitch and did have to slide the hitch back when backing my previous fiver in a tight spot which was a 2005 Citation that had quite pronounced square corners at the curved transition on the front cap. Our current trailer has a much more rounded cap and I haven't had to slide the hitch back since we bought it. I would say that I could do about a 75 degree turn before I would be in danger of contacting, which I never do due to excess stress on the trailer tires, suspension, etc. The Ram hitch sits 3-4 inches in front of the axle of the truck.
I would say that you are likely ok with the combo you are speaking of, especially with the adjustments the B&W has because you could move the hitch 6"-8" further back from where my hitch is. I agree in that I don't think having the hitch in that position given how heavy the new trucks are. Plus that is worst case scenario.
Please keep us posted! By the way that is a really nice rig you have there; I think it's even cleaner than mine is!
