New Roof Vent

My front roof vent lid took a hike for the second time since I've owned my TC. It vibrates open while driving in spite of being tightened down and then shakes itself to pieces. This one is most likely laying in the ditch between Missoula and Butte. I hope it's happy.

So, the question: Where do I buy a good quality vent with a smoke tint lid, no fan, and that stays shut when I shut it? What brand would people suggest? Fan-Tastic?

X2 on the vent covers. I had the same issue on trailer and truck canopy vents before I discovered the covers. Now I don't think twice about adding one as soon as I get a "naked vent".
  • Lost two vent lids on my Outfitter before adding a Maxxair vent cover. Not only keeps the lid from blowing off it allows you to keep the vent open in the rain - win, win.
  • I use the commercial covers as well, but then, it rains a lot in this area. If those are too high, maybe adding a soft gasket might help. You could also add a clip of some sort to hold it down.
  • We had the same problem with our pop-ups (Northstar and Outfitter)so we started positioned a pillow under the vent so when the roof was down in travel mode it would prevent the vent from opening by putting pressure on the handle. Did not have a problem after that.
  • I like the Maxx cover but being that it is your front, maybe you like looking out of it while in bed. My recommendation would be to mount a little hook on the edge of the frame and use one of your wife's rubber hair bands to attach the handle and the hook so that it can't vibrate open.
  • Same problem here with opening by itself.
Cranked ours shut so hard broke the plastic crank handle-still opened!
Replaced the handle and several thousand miles later still stays shut unless we open-and we do every night summer and winter (a little) to let out humidity.
    Can't explain why.
