As long as we are on this issue, perhaps this is a good time for me to ask opinions on my strategy. I have 17" wheels and hence tires rated at 3190#. I have never weighed my rig, but I have done realistic calculations and estimates. I have to be very close to the maximum rating on the rear tires. I have considering going to 19.5 but Rickson wants well over $3k for the upgrade. I am really not running many miles anymore, maybe 10k/year at most. With low mileage and believe I will need to replace tires at about 5 years/50K miles. The whole process seems pretty expensive although I would have a better margin on load capacity.
Instead of the expensive 19.5 option, I have been putting new 265/70/17 tires on my rear axle about every 3 years/30K miles. I move the old set up to the front. So I am getting about 60K on my tires without the cost of upgrading. Is running at full load really safe as long as my tires are pretty new?
