New tires for 09 GMC2500, need suggestions

He may need to go with an 18" rim if he does not go to a 19.5". Ford increased their brake size in 2005 which made 17" the smallest rim that would clear. They used the 17" as the standard derated wheel package on the F250 and the the rest got 18" and 20".

For the cost of replacing tires and rims, I would bite the bullet and go for the 19.5's unless the OP can find dealer or owner take-offs for a good price.

I do not believe that you can go to a 16" rim for a 2010 Dodge... I tried to go that route for my 2005 but the larger brakes will not allow a smaller diameter wheel.

Nitto has a 17" tire with Load Index= 126 for a weight capacity of 3750# each, but it is a 285 instead of a 265. I have found no 265 higher than a LI of 121. IIRC, the 285 was only 3/4" taller than the stock 265... I notice no difference.

I need to check a tire dealer about my 2010 Dodge Ram2500. It also has 17 inch rim and I cannot find a tire that is rated beyond 3195#. Converting to 19.5 rims is really expensive so maybe I can just switch to 16" rims. In the past I have checked with tire dealers about upgrades but no one has suggested 16 inch rims.

You GMC folks aren't alone. I have the 20" wheels on my F350 but the spare was an 18". I trashed the cheap steel spare which was getting eaten up with rust from all the brine and salt and bought a used 20" OEM take-off on Flea Bay and put a Nokian Rotiiva AT Plus tire on it to match my other tires and wheels. Now I don't worry as much about having an odd spare that they wanted me to put on the front and put the front on the rear (essentially requiring changing the tires twice, probably because the spare was just a bit different diameter and they were concerned about stress on the differential). I guess the truck mfg's have to make a buck somewhere!:R

The 17" alloy wheels are an option....your spare is indeed from the factory 16" steel wheel with a 265/75/16 tire rated at 3415lbs....the 265/70/17 and 265/75/16 are the same hub to tread diameter so no issues there. Are you disconnecting the camper plug when stored? Sometimes parasitic loads will such a battery dry.

Battery: DEAD. Why do I have so many problems with this camper? So I jumped it the next day, and driving back to town, realize that the AC is coming out hot on the left vent, and cold on the right vent.

$155 later, I am told I need to drive the truck more to keep everything running correctly, thanks to the computer.

Monday its Torklift Stable Load installation. Hope that goes smoothly.

I called the dealers parts dept. They told me 265/70/17. 10 ply.

I will have to make the 18 mile drive to make sure of this. Need to unload the camper anyway as I finally found somebody to install my Torklift Stable Loads. A truck and RV place, he's ever heard of them, but says they can figure it out.

It's not easy to have a TC in Nebraska!!!!

Since you're in the boonies, buy your tires off amazon. Can get great prices shipping to your door.

Honestly, it depends on your wheel size you have. The first stock tire size 245/75/16 has a general weight rating of 3042lbs. The second stock tire size 265/75/16 has a weight rating of 3415lbs. This is the one you are looking for. The last stock size is 265/70/17 and has a weight rating of 3195lbs. There isn't a different tire in any of the sizes that has more capacity than the others. They all have the same weight rating in their size. You will most likely have to change tire sizes and have the speedo recalibrated if you have the smaller tires and want more capacity. Hopefully you have the 16" rim and just get the 265/75/16 tires and get the extra weight rating you want. Otherwise just pick a tire you like best and keep it the same
size.

The other wheel is the steel wheel and looks like the one posted by Bubtoofat above. It will have a couple of less spokes since you have a 2500HD.



My parents have a 09 Silverado 2500HD and have the 17" rims. They have run the same tires that came on the truck since it was new. They have 165,000 miles and are only half way thru their 3rd set of tires. They are the Bridgestone Duravis M700. They tow a 35' 5er with theirs, Cameo F35SB3 I think.
