The hitch weight you are referencing is the weight the hitch itself is rated for, regardless of the vehicle. You could put that hitch on a 3500 or a Harley, and it would have the same rating. The vehicle it's attached to will have it's own rating. Basically, your hitch is rated higher than your 4Runner. You are stuck with working within the 950 lbs rating.colliehauler wrote:

If I load up the vehicle to the maximum tire load capacity of 950-lb, that only leaves me 145-lb for the tongue weight?
Is that right?
