First mistake, buying your first RV new. I guess you have a lot of money to throw away? Most people go about 5-7 years old as a first RV. Simple reason, depreciation! Probably 95% of all first time buyers trade or sell out and quit within the first two years. Buying used has nothing but positives for a first timer. Less loss come trade/sell time, easier to move out of, a great way to figure out exactly what you like and dislike.
As for your Tundra While it is a nice vehicle, and quite capable within it's specs your ideas of size are IMHO unrealistic. Heck I used to tow a 30 foot TT with a E350 Ford Van and it was all I wanted. Your just setting yourself up for a giant failure. Start looking around 25 foot and you will be much happier.
First off Welcome!
As you have seen already - lots of information and opinion here. You will do well to more fully research the towing capabilities, lots of good info here on that subject. It really has more to do with the weight than the length, as somebody else has pointed out.
I'm gonna respond specifically to the "don't buy it new" comment. This is again my opinion, just to give another perspective.
Last year we purchased our first ever camper brand new. It was the first time I'd done any camping in anything besides a tent, or the back of a pickup, and the first time period for better than 10 years. There is NOTHING wrong with buying new.
But...
Do please research carefully and understand just how fast these campers depreciate. Go in with your eyes open on this especially if you plan to finance your new toy.
There is a saying: "Buy your third camper first." I think this is even more true if buying new and financing. The last thing you want to do is end up with a camper that does not suit your needs. You will end up not likening it, not using it (and still having to pay), or you will trade up in a few years and be way underwater on the loan. So, buy new if you want, but have your eyes open and research...
You could choose to go the used route. Maybe less risky... Maybe you get a real POC. Be very very careful in the used market and do even more research about what to inspect for.
My opinion is the extended warranties are not normally worth the money you pay for them. But consider your own personal risk tolerance and abilities to fix many or most things on your own. It is a learning experience and can be quite satisfying... Or talk to my DW... LOL. There's another whole perspective!
Welcome again. This is a great group of folks here.
