One of the trailers I am looking at is the Northtrail 32RLTS. It has a GVWR of 8,600 lbs and the hitch is at 780.
Is this too much?

The GVWR of your truck is 7100. Now you need to know what your truck actually weighs. Take it to a Cat scale. The remainder will be your actual Payload or Cargo capacity. If the Northtrail is loaded to the GVWR of 8600 lbs., the tongue weight would be around 1100 lbs.
