Thanks for the wealth of knowledge you have all provided. I have learned a lot in the last few weeks, that's for sure. I have checked the sticker inside my door and it states that the GVWR is 7,100 lbs.
Looking in my manual, it states that the GCWR is 16,000 lbs and the TWR is 9,700 lbs.
One of the trailers I am looking at is the Northtrail 32RLTS. It has a GVWR of 8,600 lbs and the hitch is at 780.
Is this too much?

The GVWR of your truck is 7100. Now you need to know what your truck actually weighs. Take it to a Cat scale. The remainder will be your actual Payload or Cargo capacity. If the Northtrail is loaded to the GVWR of 8600 lbs., the tongue weight would be around 1100 lbs.
Another trailer we found is a Jayco 29REKS. It has a GVWR of 8500lbs. So this one would put my tongue weight at approx 850 pounds, if the trailer was fully loaded. I do not have kids that will be traveling with us so I do not know if I would come close to putting 2,000lbs of gear in a trailer for a week long (at most) camping trip.
