It would help us provide advice for your handling issue if you provided specific information on your "1994 Caribou" camper and your "1997 diesel" truck. Airbags may be a bandaid on a sucking chest wound.
Fleetwood made 4 different size Caribou campers in 1994. Ford, Chevy, GMC, and Dodge all made diesel pickup trucks in 1997, in 2 different models, with several cab configurations and two wheel configurations.
The most likely reason for your handling issues is that the weight of the camper is pushing the limits of the truck's capacity. If you have an SRW (single rear wheel) truck and one of the longer 10' or 11' floor length campers, you should consider getting the whole thing weighed and make sure you are not exceeding the tires' rated capacity. You may need to upgrade a tire size or two, or even go to 19.5" tires to get the truck handling well again.
