GM sells the most full sized half ton SUVs by a wide margin, about 15 times the amount as Sequoias each year. That does not mean it is the best for every person/situation. But if quality were so poor, sales would not be so high.
I don't have a brand preference, but for what it is worth, we've put about 200k miles on a couple 1/2 ton Suburbans in the last 8 years or so, and both have been perfectly reliable. Plus another 80k flawless miles on a Chevy 2500hd.
I'm sure the Sequoia is a good family hauler as well, as long as you don't need a lot of cargo room w/ the rear seat upright, which is why we never even looked at them. In fact, I believe they're all pretty good these days as long as you get one with the options you need for the task at hand!
