New tow rig. GM 10 speed

Not a long term review, obviously, but just got a new company truck. 5.3L Chevy 1500 with the 10speed auto.

This slushbox appears to work seamlessly, it's intuitive on up and downshifts. Shifting a very crisp, but at the same time almost imperceptible unless your staring at the tach or hear the engine rpms change.

For the more gears ain't better crowd, I beg to differ. It's a big step up from the 6 speed in the 2016 Silverado I had.

Looking forward to seeing how well it tows.

They only put the ten speed with the 5.3 in the trailboss. Everything else gets the 8 speed unless you get the 6.2. Very nice truck there.

    Thanks!
I expected it to have the 8 speed, so that was a pleasant surprise, although the 8 speed one I had for a couple months, previously, was a similar step up from the 6.
Fun fact, the LT Trailboss models get the 10 speed, but the Custom Trailboss models (low optioned) get the old 6 speed behind the 5.3 or 4.3 motors.

Your RST is a 6.2, correct? Love those truck too.

  • Oops,
Guess I should blow up pic and out spectacles on! Mine went the ball combos. Looked like a ball only. Cutting and drilling isn't too bad if you have the right tools. I've drilled s few solid ones trying to get the mount closer to the truck.
When I bought IHC, the bed manufacture gave me a LOIOIMG bar with a 2 5/16 ball. With in 6 months the bar was bent, as was back of flatbed from hitting ea other dumping the truck by someone forgetting to pull the ball mount out.

Good thing they gave you that heavy white paint twuck, not the light wieght redone!

Oh, you need a heavier duty hitch setup, like a pintle behind that chebby twuck!!

It’s a pintle. Need to saw about 6” off that stinger but I don’t have the motivation to re-drill a 2” thick bar!

It will be good to get a report on a new truck/transmission, that will likely see a tougher than average lifestyle. That's a nasty lookin hitch on there. Going to be a test for the receiver. No diff break-in, before towing, will tell us how much that is really necessary?

Haha, I bought that hitch one night on my way to work and the stinger was in a box. Didn’t know it was the extended break your receiver version! No one gets too close to the back of the truck though!
Not sure how much work this one will do. I’ve been more of an indoor cat lately.

Used to be it seemed every time we relocated for my job, I got a new truck and hooked several of them to a trailer right off the car lot basically. Never had any diff problems.

I’m going to baby this one if I can. Never had a truck with leather before, lol!

Transmission is on par with the nicest I’ve ever driven though, first impression. I’d compare it to the 8HP in our Charger or the new BMW I rented last week. It’s that nice.

Makes the 68rfe in our Ram feel even more like a bag of sht with ball bearings in it!
  • GM/Ford have a winner with that 10 speed. It is one of the best transmissions I have driven.

  • I just stepped up to Gmc at4 but with the 6.2 gas motor and ten speed tranny, I went from a 2018 1500 with the 5.3 and 8speed. Just towed my camper 2600 miles with it and loved the ten speed tranny.
