New travel trailer and tow vehicle

Hi everyone, I am awaiting currently delivery of my tow vehicle, a 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71 with tow package, and I am also negotiating for our first TT, a 2016 Keystone Bullet Crossfire 2070BH.

I believe the Colorado will have no trouble pulling this 3765lbs TT with it's 7000lbs towing capacity since I am leaving myself with a lot of room for cargo and passengers.

I'm looking for opinions on this setup and this specific TT if people in this forums maybe own one, I will be getting a weight distribution hitch with sway control as well and a proportional trailer brake controller.

Thanks for the responses.

  • I guess the thing I would want to look at is the payload of the truck since it is not a full size truck, be careful not to overload it.
  • I think you'd be happier towing with a full size V8 truck in the long run, although that trailer may well be within the comfortable wheelhouse of a Colorado.
  • I cannot speak to the combo. It seems well within reach. The brake controller is not an option, if you don't have one you have to get one. I would guess the WDH isn't an option either. Look in the manual for the colorado, I would bet it says anything over 5000 lbs and you have to have a WDH. Get a good one and spend more than you really want to..you will be happier in the long run.

As for the trailer specs, don't trust the paper, get it weighed at a scale if you can, maybe even prior to buying it if an option. After you load the trailer up with gear, and people in the truck, you will find yourself a lot closer to the number than you might expect.

As for how well the v6 chevy pulls, I have no idea. It may be fine, or you may be wishing you bought a v8 silverado..
