The million topics how GWVR is calculated are not getting the message.
So 1 more time, the factory rates GWVR per tax bracket buyers are willing to pay. In most states the 15,000 lb is the main step in fees and requirements.
So both F350 and F450 are rated at 15k, but since the bigger wheels, bigger axles , bigger brakes on F450 weigh more, when you subtract it from GVWR - you end with less so-called "Payload".
Those are all paper numbers and have very loose connection to actual vehicle capacities.
Than with big TC the main issue is weight distribution and since truck up to F450 are design as "grocery getters" with rear axle 4-5 feet from rear bumper, you might end with F550 who is the first in the series with axle placed in the rear and with cargo carrying in mind.
Have fun sorting all those issues. ;)
Oh I fully under how it all works, this isn't my first RV or TC, simply pointed out that I could not care less what the truck manufacturer states as a "max". My truck is rated at 9000lbs MAX and that leaves 700 pounds in the end for passengers and load. I'm a "bit" over that, and yes, I sorted my issues with ease and travel with confidence.
So please, let's not turn down the constant road of arguing weight, I'll do the math on the tires and see if I need factory 19.5's or have enough tire to carry the Tc and tongue weight of my boat.
I honestly though a 5 series truck would be in my future, but that was 12 years from now when I retire. It has just became apparent that my TC now just won't cut it anymore so I'm moving up sooner and still want to daily drive the truck. My 19.5's are bad now, but the suspension on a 5 series won't be fun everyday unloaded.
Thanks.
