One major reason for full length wheel to wheel boards is to keep the spatter/rocks/mud off of the body. With the setup I have now, the truck stays remarkably clean looking in horrible conditions.
When we bought our 2004 Buick Rainier they installed SS full length boards for free for that same reason, when I noted that the forums were talking about chipped paint in front of the rear wheels caused by things thrown up by the front wheels.
I installed diamond plate on the nerf bars on our earlier RAM to keep stuff off the body. Chris
