New truck shocks

I've got a 2009 Silverado 2500HD, at last service my mechanic told me the right front shock was leaking and I might want to consider new shocks before towing this year. Has anyone replace stock with something else? Looking to smooth the ride but still handle the weight of my 7000# trailer. Open to any suggestion. Thanks!
  • I've used Monroe, Rancho's, and Bilsteins. The Bilsteins are by far the best of the three, and are still going strong after 50K miles. I had two sets of Rancho's fail and had to be removed after only three months of service for each set. Both sets were sold and installed by a Rancho dealer. Perhaps an isolated incident, but the Bilsteins outperformd the other two from day one.
  • I see you're from NJ...worst roads is right. That's why I have this problem! I'll look into those Bilsteins
  • Bilstein are hard to beat for capability under load. However, when my TV was also my daily driver I preferred the adjustable Rancho RS9000s so that I could change their behavior with nothing on the ball, empty bed, and some of the worst roads in the country!

Bil's here also store replacements are 4600's, and you can get the 5011's for non lifted TV also.
I have the 5100's and they are awesome.
  • Bilstein direct replacements...If I remember, the number is 5100's.
Mine have been excellent for daily driving and towing. Great improvement.
  • Bilstein shocks seem to be the favorites here. I have them on my 2500HD and put them on right after I bought the truck last summer. I can't give a report on them....3 of the 4 old shocks were blown.
