Going from 8,000 BTU to 12,000 BTU means you will be pulling a lot more power. Is your trailer set up with a 30A power cord ?
"Absorption" refrigerators do not work well in high ambient heat situations. With the cost of inverters and batteries coming down, absorption refrigerators are going to be phased out. And with better and better brushless DC motor compressors these will become more common. Even compressor refrigerators need to be near level to work properly.
Lot of credence in that comment. The new generation of brushless, duty cycle controlled compressor fridges are very efficient and use minimal power. I have one but it's a portable Dometic Cool Box. Operates anywhere from 32 degrees down to -15 and is all digital. Cool down time averages 20 minutes and amp draw is minimal, like 2.5 amps at 100% duty cycle, tapering down to .5 amps once the unit is at set temp.
An absorbtion fridge with accessory fans will draw at least an amp or more and that is continually, not intermittent.
I agree that as brushless compressor fridges advance, the old 'Amish' style absorbtion fridges will become less and less. Besides, a new compressor fridge initial cost is actually LESS than an old 'Amish style' unit and install is easier too, so retrofitting isn't a big deal.
