To get the cable or broadcast TV sound to play out of the stereo speakers, you need to plug a cable into the audio out on your tv, which will usually be 2 rca cables or a 3.5mm headphone jack and then plug the other end into the auxiliary in on your stereo. This will allow your regular TV to play through the speakers. Depending on the TV, you'll either need a RCA to 3.5mm adapter or just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable to go from TV to stereo.
As for not being able to watch movies without sound being through out the cabin, I've always seen A/B/C options for choosing which speakers have the sound. I'm not sure how yours is wired, but if there are bedroom speakers you should have the option to select just that speaker source, but...they like to wire these tings oddly, so....good luck!
