When we are young we think we are invincible so yes towing at night was no big thing in our minds.
Now that I am older I prefer not to tow at night. It's just not safe. Sure there is usually less traffic. The main problem is changing lanes. Lights in the mirror can play tricks...is there a vehicle next to me or not. It's tough to see curbs, overhanging branches, holes, road defect or other obstacles.
I try to tow from first light to beat the traffic and then stop around 3PM to setup camp for the night.
