No AC.... Deal breaker?

I know the obvious answer is, it depends on where you camp, but I'm just wondering if people wish they got it, or have it and seldom use it. The trailer I'm looking at has no AC but does have fantastic fans.
Thanks all!

  • We spent a week in Virginia and it was in the mid to high 90's every day. Not having AC would have been unbearable.
When we camp in the northern climates w/o hookups we try to get a shaded site. Most of the time that works for us.

Still, not having AC would be a deal breaker for me.

Much more dough though... But probably worth it
An AC can be installed after market. IOW, if you can get a good deal on the one without, add in the cost of an AC installed.

  • is it wired for an AC? if not, I wouldn't want it. even at somewhat moderate temperatures it will knock down the humidity.

We rarely use our AC... BUT, when we need it, we use it! I take it you are looking at either a used trailer, or a very small trailer? I would be amazed if any new trailers around me didn't come with AC, unless they are very small single axle - but even then, most of those have AC now.

Yes, I would consider it a deal breaker.
  • Would be a deal-breaker in my book. To be fair, we've used the AC very little this year but on our recent trip through New England last month there were some times when it was absolutely necessary. JMHO
  • We always camp in the shade in heavily wooded sites. We do most of our camping in the spring and fall. But there are are times during the summer when we would be miserable camping without the AC.
Two years ago during a Michigan summer the temperature was over 100.We would have had to go home without the AC.
Ask people who live in your area what they do.
Perhaps you only do mountain camping but we were very warm during an August we spent camping in BC.
  • I really like have an AC. I don't have one in my home. It can easily reach 85-90 inside the house. But with fans going, it doesn't seem to bother me as long as humidity doesn't get bad, which happens during our thunderstorms.

In the trailer, 70-75 bothers me. I guess close quarters affects it more. Add humidity, and I'd rather go home than sit in the trailer. So I end up outside a lot. But if I need to be inside for any reason, I'd much prefer an AC.

Deal breaker? Not if the price is cheap enough that it would offset the cost of adding one.
  • In Texas, it would be a deal breaker. In BC, I don't know. We had two RVs in Michigan, neither had air conditioning, and we used them in the summer, one a travel trailer, one a pop-up camper. The twenty years I lived there, none of our houses had air conditioning either.

If you are thinking about taking the trailer to south Texas in the summer, no air conditioning would be a problem. Living in that climate now, I simply refuse to go "camping" at the time of year when the activity requires sitting in a plastic box with mechanical cooling. But you could have another RV use in mind, for which air conditioning makes more sense, e.g. motel substitute for traveling.
