The nice thing is that there are so many options to fit different needs, budgets and conditions.
Buying a used Champion 3500/4000 for $62 left me a lot of cash over buying a EU 3000. With that money we bought a solar system, extra battery, a inverter, LEDs and there is still more than enough for a Tailgater set up.
As a balanced system it works very well and 99% of the time the Champ is quieter than any other generator out there because it's not needed. On the rare occasion we do need air, we are inside and can barely hear it. Would a EU 3000 be quieter and use less gas, maybe but the difference will be a lot smaller than when charging batteries. At 9-10,000 ft Big red is going to be running balls to the wall and that uses a lot of gas and will be as loud as it can be.
Running the AC off of solar is possible but not practical. Then again even charging a battery outside of generator hours isn't going to happen either.
Here's a question for the generator users. Can you hear the birds sing, the breeze in the trees or a humming bird flapping it's wings at the feeder 50 ft away? I know I couldn't when someone was running a EU 3000 in the next site. I can also tell you that when no generator is used that we had much more wild life visiting the sites. Even when they are off the smell keeps the animals away.
Now just because our systems work well for us doesn't mean they will work for anyone else or even us if our needs change. When they do change there will be lots of options to chose from.
