A switchback is a term for a winding road up a mountain side, so tight that as you come around a corner you could be a foot from the trailer to the side of the mountain. you often hear people saying as you round the corner the driver can see the rear trailer lights. It is normally not just one but a bunch in a row to get up the side of a mountain. Go to googlemaps.com, do the satellite view and look up US 226 around the town of Little Switzerland, NC. you can zoom in and see exactly what they look like.
