Installed A superhitch, Talon tie downs, upper stable loads, Lance Bed plug and hood mounts for my Lance struts on my new F350 Dually. Everything is good except for the passenger rear talon is right in the path of the exhaust pipe and I have a feeling that the diesel in regen mode is going to damage it. I am going to go to a muffler shop to see about re directing the exhaust pipe a bit

Mine comes out in the same general area. Hard to tell from the pic but mine comes out a bit higher I believe. Mine are the steel though not aluminum, it has kind of damaged the sticker but that's about all. If It hasn't even burned off the sticker I'm not too concerned.

Same thing happened to me. I put a down turn tip on my exhaust but nothing wrong with it the way it is provided some little kid doesn't get burned.

some better angles. I think rotating the exhaust tips down 5 or 10 degrees should do the trick

Mine is like as well and destroyed the sticker. Otherwise, it seems fine.

Never noted any problems with mine while they were on my previous Ford, which is/was exactly same as yours now. Again, as others have mentioned, mine were steel, not aluminum.

ahhh...ok. I learned something today. Us old oil burners haven't had to worry about regen!

Yep its OEM and attached to the giant muffler, particulate filter, catalitic converter complex.

Yes, OE.... and it's not true dual exhaust, just two tips.... to help cool the exhaust gas during regen.

GM has the "trumpet" exhaust which is also designed to cool the gasses.

I'll agree with others that exhaust temp at tips should be negligeble. Those bling chrome tips should do the trick.

I will ask a stupid question though; dual exhaust on a diesel?

If you have a truck that uses DEF and a DPF, you see no noticeable particulates in the end of the pipes (not sure if he has both for that model year). As others have posted, the exhaust temperature will not be enough to harm the metal, but it may harm the finish. Down turned tips seem like the easiest fix for this.

I remember looking at the exhaust tips on our former 2012 F-350 and saying they "weren't very sexy" - and Ed said they HAD to be vented. Your explanation makes sense; and might explain the lack of chrome due to staining?

The 6.7's exhaust tips have those holes in them to cool the exhaust as it leaves the pipes . I wouldn't put any tips on that aren't also vented like that. The regeneration cycle get's very hot.

My truck, pre emissions, is the same or worse. I've cooked that tie down for a lot of miles and aesthetics is the only problem.
You'll see higher tailpipe temps during a regen, but not near enough to heat the steel in the tie down to a point of yield. If that was an issue, your exhaust would melt first, lol.
On the up side, yours will be clean. Mine has a healthy buildup of soot on it.
Once you burn the paint off, paint it with some high temp engine/exhaust paint.

Exhaust temps run around 1200-1250 if I recall correctly. Tail pipe, you'd be lucky if you even saw 400 degress. Other than decals, it isn't going to hurt any metal.

And tail pipes don't 'weld' themselves. Welding is over 2800 degrees. But tail pipes do rust/corrode.

Other than aesthetics, I see no issue.

**** designers; why can't they think of everything ahead of time. Gheesh.....
