I think you are just not used to towing a big, heavy trailer and don't have any reference on how it affects the tow vehicle in terms of performance and handling compared to when you are taking the kids to soccer practice... ;)
To start off with a 30' TT that weighs over 3 tons DRY and expect your luxury SUV to tow it like it's not there is not really the best way to learn! ;)
You are fixated on that "tow rating" of #8700 and the "tow rating" does not mean it's gonna drive the same as it does when you are going to the store.. ;)
You just need experience towing heavy stuff and learn how the vehicle handles it and know that it's gonna be slower, spongy feeling and basically handle like******compared to your everyday driving. :)
I say this not to bring you down or anything... I say it because that's what I thought the first time I towed a heavy trailer.. But, I was only 16 years old, so I've had some time to figure some things out.. :)
Anyway, don't make the mistake of thinking a pickup truck is going to make your towing experience any better than it is now.. I'll bet even if you had a 3500 series truck, you'd still be amazed at how different it tows that same TT you have compared to driving that same truck not towing anything..
It's all speculative of course.. I have no idea what you are experiencing when towing your rig.. Just as you have no idea of where I'm coming from trying to explain it..
In the end, you need to feel confident about what you are towing, so it's just going to boil down to getting some miles under your belt with your current setup before you chuck it for another setup and still not know what your towing expectations are.
Good luck!
