Very impressive. Looked at a Kodiak 4500 MDT a few years ago and ran into insurance issues, one company that would insure it was more than my Dodge Ram 3500. You say that you can insure the Freightliner for less than your Dodge? That is great.
What about truck weight stations, how do you deal with them?
When the second set of drivers were removed, how much did it shorten the tractor?
Is it an auto or manual trans?
I plated mine as a motorhome insurance runs $1200.
scales- I have always driven by ,no repercussions (no DOT numbers)
Length is a owner choice , mine singled is 24' overall I cant recall the wheel base ,but it is something that is almost unlimited (within the physical properties of the truck) you get to pick fuel tank location, axle ,hitch -mine is way back of the drive axle.
The transmission is a 'automated 12 speed ' no clutch peddle but it has a clutch,it senses load and picks a starting gear, when to skip shift (all the time) when to down shift ,and its never afraid to down shift on a down grade.I want to giggle went it starts double clutching and rev matching by itself , like a bunch of elfs down there pulling levers and spinnig valves.:-)
Engine braking ?
Jakes - enough said, hauls the unit down from any speed using only the first stage until about 20 mph then you step on the service brake.
Dropping one axle should shorten a truck about 4 feet assuming you cut the 'ducktail ' off.
