"IF" the computer ever fails and a person doesn't want to go to the expense of repairing it,the entire computer system can be removed, the hole in the floor of the truck opened up and the regular old hand shifter stick setup can be installed onto and into the transmission and it can be returned to total manual use. The auto-shift, "IS" a computer controlled manual transmission that has been in use for decades.
My truck has a Eaton-Fuller transmission, a Detroit 60 series engine, and Eaton rear axle, all of which can be worked on at ANY competent truck repair shop. Volvo's are a great truck, however there are not nearly as many repair shops scattered around the hinterlands that can work on them "IF" they are built with all Volvo components. Just something to keep in mind if your shopping for a HDT.
