With your toyhauler, the Dodge was near the limit of what it can easily tow so it was working hard up hills while the HDT is nowhere near the limit of what it can tow, or what it has been towing for over 700,000 miles, and what you will tow with it. The whole towing issue is much easier and less stressful. The HDT when really working was towing at a gross of around 80,000 pounds with likely 40,000 pounds or more in the trailer. Now it is towing less than half that. And HDT's are industrial strength designed to tow heavy all day for basically forever. I think you have a great setup that will never be over the tow rating, over gross, or over payload.
While an HDT will out pull any pick up truck all of MR. Cobs analysis is based on his 2003 model. Pick ups have improved and increased capacities and features quite a lot since 2003. A 2013 DRW diesel from any of the big three will not struggle pulling Mr. Cobbs rig.
I agree they will not compare to the HDT but they will be night and day vs. the 03
