Mr. Cobb...I only read the first and last couple of pages so if you have already responded to what I'm about to post I digress. Given the date of your purchase and the about date Daimhler/Chrysler acquired Detroit Diesel as well as your claim of superior fuel miles I can only assume that you have a Detroit 60 Series for a motor. So if that's the case I wont take issue with the fuel miles claim.
As for your superior ride claim I'm having a problem with that...to qualify I had a stretched out W900 that I put about 1 1/2 million miles on, and given the wheel base was 265 inches, and not the much shorter wheel base that you have, there was never a time that I could claim the ride was superior to my F250 w/camper package, and they can deliver a rough ride.
Also you stated how quiet it is and that too would come into question. Today I can single out my Tinnitus problem as a direct result of noise being generated from driving a big truck.
As for anyone contemplating using a large truck for a similar purpose do your due diligence because there are enough cons to the idea to warrant not doing it.
Howdy artguys,
My HDT has a DD 60 series 12.7 engine, it gets better fuel mileage then what my Dodge got and isn't working in the process.
The air ride cab and air ride seats do provide a better ride then my Dodge, the seats themselves are much more comfortable and much more adjustable including the adjustable arm rests on both sides of the seat, and the inside of the cab is quieter in the FL then it is in the Dodge. The Dodge when working had a droning sound that penetrated into the cab, this was traced down to the rear wall of the cab and the rear floor vibrating. The truck was checked out by a local Dodge dealer and found to be in order, no u-joint problems, proper drive line angles just noise generated when the engine was working hard. his is a "common" problem on Dodges of the years my truck was built, many folks have done a lot of work installing sound deadening material on the floors, inside of the doors and the rear wall of the cab to lessen this droning noise.
For "ME" this was a great up grade, others will have to use their own research and "COMMON SENSE" to come to their own conclusions, as for me I am very happy with my choice of tow vehicle.
