If you buy it at a high elevation and drive down to a lower elevation you will get worse mileage and poorer performance.
My son currently lives in the Amarillo area. It's close to 4000' there and they sell 85. I fill up with 85 before I leave to return to the Houston area, 50' elevation. I'll stop in Childress, 1800', to top off the tank with 87 and that gets me home without a problem.
