My 2011 Ecoboost manual says that for best performance when towing to use 91 octane. I have not been above 7000 ft yet pulling my TT but at 6500 ft I did not notice any problems with burning 87 octane. My TT is only 3200 pounds loaded so maybe the light weight helps. I think that when I get into the areas were 85 is the "normal" regular gas I will pay for the 87. The turbo doesn't care wht the elevation is.
