Odd slide out issue

My Brother just got a new Coleman TT and he says that he can only open the slides if the trailer is plugged in to AC/shore power. The dealer (Camping World) told him it was supposed to be that way.

My question is why would they make AC/shore power required for slide out operation on purpose? :? Has anyone ever seen/heard of such a thing? This make no since to me and there is no way I would want this "feature" on mine.

  • The slide for sure works off of just the battery. That dealer is full of horse puckey.

Is everything else working inside the trailer when it isn't plugged in?

I wouldn't even go for toilet paper. They will sell you the special 'RV Toilet Paper' that MUST be used in the tanks.

  • I've never seen or heard of a slide only working when on shore power! There is a problem somewhere.
Did the dealer install a battery?
  • Does everything else work thats on 12 volt when the shore power is disconnected? Lights, Fridge, water pump should all be functional, if they are working at least you know its only on that item, otherwise you may have a disconnected battery,
  • Our slides each have 40 amp DC fuses.

Manual states if the battery isn't fully charged, just plugging into shore power may not be enough.

Different model, but sounds like a similar setup.
  • At least he now knows one thing: stay away from that dealer, unless maybe for toilet paper. Slides work on the 12-volt system. Check battery, of course; slides need a strong battery charge. If battery has a full charge then check for a bad connection; check battery terminals for corrosion.
