It's definitely a balancing act. I want something big enough to full time in, but small enough to get back off the beaten path.
Ground clearance under the axles isn't what I'm worried about, it's more clearance with steps, black tank valves, stabilizers, and the jack and rear "bumper." Taller tires should help get all of that a few inches higher (at the cost of a higher cog).
