oil change question

My 2013 Eco f150 just passed 60,000 miles and out of warranty. Thinking I will stop the dealer oil changes.

Question is on type of oil. Ford uses a 5/30 synthetic blend oil, motorcraft of course. Don't think the other shops I am considering carry it, although they might be able to get it. I haven't asked yet.

Years ago I always heard not to switch oils. Not sure how valid that is today or even if it ever really mattered.

Don't really want to go full synthetic. I get my oil changed every 5000 miles, about ecery 5-6 months on avg., even though the book says I can go as much as 10,000.

What do others do with their f150's? I know 1 answer already is read the manual, and I will do that. Just looking for opinions.

  • Changing your oil every 5K is really old school and really not necessary on today's engines....I'd follow the manual (after all they designed and built the thing).

But yes, any API certified 5/30 oil will work...doesn't have to be "Ford" brand...actually Ford does not manufacturer oil.

I'm a synthetic fan for no other reason than it makes me feel good. (There are other scientific reason also).
