I have a 1996 Chevy C3500 with the 454 in it. It has started having an issue with the oil pressure. When I first start the truck cold I have good pressure at about 60. I can drive it around and once it gets nice and warm the pressure will drop down to 0 if I stop and let it idle. I changed the oil and used 10w30 to see if the oil had lost its viscosity. It seemed to help but still is dropping. Sometimes at idle it drops to about 10 and other times back to 0. Any suggestions? Is my oil pump to blame or what?

It could be a sender failure. it could be a wiring to sender failure...it could be a mechanical failureRemove sender and put a known to be good mechanical gauge in it's place...then repeat how you were getting ZERO pressure...and check the mechanical gauge at that timeyou will immediately know if its electrical or memechanical at this time

if you are running a frame filter it can cause that.use a wix or purilater filrer

You need to test it with a mechanical gauge. If it is the engine it could be a plugged pickup screen or bad cam bearings. You did not mention knocking which would point to bad rod or main bearings.

I have that same problem in mine from 2005 with the speedometer and oil gauge...have heard there is a recall on the cables for these
