Look, I know that Ford is the #1 selling pickup truck, but there have been over 29 MILLION GM recalls in the first half of 2014 alone. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I doubt Ford produced more than 29 MILLION diesel powered trucks between 2003 and 2010.

Yup. I had a 1985 "Dodge Ram" pickup. 318, 2wd, 4 spd stick. It went for 377,000 miles until the valves seals were so bad I could have contracted out for mosquito control services.

Why are we arguing the merits of how to compare Fords non recall with GM's recall?

I was simply responding to some ridiculous claim made by another poster. Perhaps you want to discuss the terms of the comparison with him, rather than argue them with me.

I didn't make the claim, I am just pointing out how absurd the claim was.

I did not see where it indicated that the government was investigating bogus recalls. I read where dealers were making advertising that appeared to be similiar to recall notices.

And with the link, everybody can read what was written and interpret the english language themselves.

OK guys if your going to slam Ford for the 6.0/6.4 remember GM tried to build a diesel out of the Oldsmobile 350 V8 gasoline engine. Then was forced by the courts to put a lifetime warranty or change the vehicles over to gas plus cash back. They were put in the Cadillac Eldorado's and the Cutlass. GM didn't step up to the plate and fix these vehicles they had to be sued before they would own up to their piss-poor engineering.

GM all but killed the diesel market in North America for many many years.

Well, Dad/admitted GM employee: I see you are at least partly right: the state and federal investigations are targeted mostly at the dealerships that are producing fake recalls.

The article ends with: "The auto industry was already learning how to turn recall lemons into lemonade, but GM under CEO Mary Barra is teaching an advanced seminar on the subject."


added: I wasn't pointing a finger at GM, but you as a GM employee are accomplishing that quite well. I wonder why you chose to drop that part of your ID in later posts.

And I should note that the article was making many points, among them, that cars in general are getting so good, it is getting hard to get people back into the dealership. So maybe this recall thing is just part of the natural evolution of car sales. (my own words/interpretation, since you like to get so technical, Dad.)

I was referring to the actual recall not the amount of vehicles included in it. The NHTSA campaign or the internal GM campaign for example. If a manufacturer issues 29 million campaigns, they should just hang it up and shut off the lights.
