Old Noob

I first visited this website a little over 10 years ago.

I don't even remember my user name then.

Anyway, y'all answered questions, and I bought a 2004 Lance 1010 new.

I have lived in it these past 10 years, and been very happy in it, and with it.

No issues whatsoever with the camper itself, but appliances and such were giving trouble at a faster rate than I could keep up with, and I decided to look into a new one.

Never gave much thought to looking beyond Lance, as I tend to stick with what works well for me.

Didn't want a slideout. I'm a simple man, and Sally (my German Shorthair) and I don't get in each other's way much.

So I bought an 850. Was amazed at how much my 1010 was still worth in trade, off a negotiated cash price.

It cost me $13.5k to trade. My cost per month on the 1010 for 122 months was $80-some dollars. I'm very happy with that.

Anyway, I'm 5 days in the new house, and starting to get used to it.

I mostly like it better, but miss my front window in the cabover a lot. It's a cave up there now.

All the appliances are different, and I expect I'm going to have some questions for y'all.

(I already have some, but they can wait.)

This post is just to say hello.

Joe

  • Welcome back Joe. Hope you & Sally get a long life out of your 850.
  • I am amazed that you did not have any:
    1. dry rot issues with a wooden frame and attendant seam leakage..
    2. fungus or mold growing in some corners. This is worse when you live in a TC full-time.
However, TX is pretty dry most of the year. It's just the exhalation of your breath that can cause problems.
    3. more appliance and plumbing issues than you did have.
The bottom line is, most TC's are not made to be lived in full-time, so you must have taken extra precautions or had extraordinary good luck (or kept your windows and vents open most of the year)
Congrats. 122 months with the same rig, huh? You are definitely in the swing of it now.
Ten years is a long time in TC years. They have improved a lot since your 1010 was born.
You were here when I was inducted 10 yrs. ago.
    regards, as always, jefe
