Old propane tanks on new RVs

I bought a brand new 2017 Coleman 262BH in 2017. Went to get my propane tanks filled today and found out they expired in 2013, 4 years before I bought my 2017 model camper new off the lot. They would not fill them. The test date was 2003 (expires 2013). Feeling kinda cheated. They told me it would cost $120.00 to get new, filled bottles.

  • I would ask the dealer who sold you the RV if they will replace the tanks. They will probably refuse and say they are not the tanks they installed.
It's $120, not worth getting upset. Bite the bullet, buy new tanks if you can't get them recertified and learn from your mistake.
    Life is short.
  • Take the tanks to a BIG propane dealership. They should be able to re-certify the tanks for about $10 each or less. Then the cost to fill them. I get mine re-certified at a local Southern States farm supply store. We have about 8 tanks we use for aux supplies for the RV, BBQ's, torches and a mess of other things around the farm. I'd also notify Coleman corporate folks that the dealer is putting WAY out of date old tanks on their new rigs and then charging exorbitant prices to make it good. They may not do anything, but need to know what their dealers are doing.
  • I agree with K Charles .. the dealer gave you old tanks with a new trailer. I would talk to the dealer about it.. Jim2007.
  • It not the factory, they come without tanks. The dealer did that to you.
