Ditto on the kitchen sink for all sorts of things. If you're concerned about it shifting, slip a towel around it and you'll be good. In both our HTT and TT, absolutely nothing is left on the countertop other than the sponge. Same for the bathroom....soap dispensers, anything and everything loose goes in the sink.
